FreeSatfromSky
One of the ways to get Digital Television is via Satellite. Using a second hand sky box you can get all the BBC and ITV TV channels plus a large collection of others. But Channel 4 and 5, 5 Live and 5 US are still encrypted using the Sky system and can only be received if you have a viewing card. You can get a non subscription card for a one off fee of £20 from FreeSatFromSky or a Sky installation and a FreeSat card for £150.

The use of a card in a Sky box will also regionalize BBC and ITV to your local area. If no card is used it defaults to London.

Also if you buy a second hand Sky+ Box you can pay £10 a month to enable the PVR features, pause live TV, record two channels at once or watch one channel while recording another or better subscribe to a Sky packages for £17 and get the Sky+ features for free.

FreeSat
Another way is to use a new FreeSat Box which not only give you free Satellite Channels but also includes a couple of Free HD Channels. There are ordinary receivers available  and also a PVR version. It uses the same broadcasts as sky uses and so if you have a sky dish already installed then no extra kit is required. Details are available here. Freesat.
